Now instead of clouding in the corners I have clouding in one corner and four big clouds right in the center of the screen. I called again and this time he said he just came from a Samsung tech meeting where they spent most of the time discussing this problem. This was a fairly painless operation and I was excited to have a good television for my home theater. I called and a tech came out and said the panel needed to be replaced.
I just want my money back at this point. I was very disappointed with this tv. Unfortunately I have bad clouding in the corners and a spot off center. I called the tech again and after messing with it for an hour and calling Samsung he said that it's just tough luck. The new solution was to update the firmware and turn down the back light so it can't go over a certain brightness.
Besides even when I turn the backlight all the way down you can still see the clouds. However, the new one has worse clouding than the old one. That is the way that the monitor is supposed to be and that no one else has complained. That is garbage.
The bright scenes look amazing. It seems to me this would reduce your contrast ratio. If the set won't function at the contrast ratios advertised then it shouldn't be advertised at those ratios. I have a smaller Samsung LCD (32") which has no trouble and 5 Samsung computer monitors which I have loved. Nice. However, I find it completely unacceptable. Plenty of competitors have large LCDs that don't have this problem so it isn't inherent in the technology. They sent a new panel and replaced my old one.
It is just a bad design on Samsung's part. I showed how distracting the clouds were in an episode of Star Trek (they are very noticable during any of the space scenes or any dark scene of any show for that matter) and his comment was "pretend they are nebula". I purchased a top of the line model hoping to avoid quality issues. It does not perform as advertised and they are trying to avoid fixing the issue by saying this is just how they are. Buy something else.
What, no TV in the living room. Looks great. WHAT. Then I bought a 40" Samsung LCD TV for the living room and thought WOW.
HDTV literally looks 3D. HHMMM, 40" in the bedroom would look much better. So the 32" went in the spare bedroom, the 40" into the master bedroom. First I bought a 32" Samsung LCD TV and thought WOW. Hanging all four on the walls. Only way to find out is to put the 32" in the other spare bedroom, the 40" in the first spare bedroom, and the 46" in the master bedroom.
No TV in the living room. The 52" Samsung LCD TV fixed that problem and is without a doubt the BEST picture I have ever seen.
Nothing but Samsung for me from now on. I took it out of my living room and put it in the bedroom.
Best of all it was perfect right out of the box. So I bought a 46" Samsung LCD TV and thought WOW.
Could the picture get any better. What's next you ask.
Sorry Sony.
Wow, like other reviewers, there is so much to write about this Samsung TV, it's probably simpler to just say "buy it". Prices are coming down, so shop for the best price then buy it. Simply put, thats BS.
The video is sharp and lifelike, and on Blu Ray videos, beyond belief. Vibrant colors, and no motion issues.I've seen reviewers complaining about sound. Truly amazing, the LN52a850 is the best, clearest TV I've ever seen.
Some of the blackest blacks i've ever seen. If I order groceries to be delivered, there's no reason to leave the house ever again. :)I keep hearing that new technology will be even better, and I simply can't believe human eyesight will be able to SEE anything beyond what this TV offers.I've seen reviewers say blacks aren't black.
Turn up the settings in the audio menu and you can get more than acceptable sound, even if it's not the same quality as a $2500 surround, it's more than adequate. If you're looking for an incredible TV, buy it. You'll be a happy camper.
Amazon made it easy. Earlier than expected delivery, great price and the ease of set up made this purchase a pleasure. The TV has been working fine and the color and clarity are amazing.
If you run your cabling inside the drywall anyway, like me, it doesn't matter. The mount doesn't list this TV as being compatible but it works great on mine.
Just got it on the wall last night. Great TV.
You hang the TV like a picture on the wall. No complaints.
If you are running your cables through the drywall (for appearances) then I would recommend using the Samsung Ultra Slim Wall Mount. The inputs for the TV are straight off the back, instead of parallel with the wall as on the LED-type sets, which is the reason it isn't listed as being compatible with the mount.
It's almost as slim as the LED sets and it looks great.
